1. Pre-Needling Preparation
Avoid for 3 days before treatment:
- Anti-inflammatory medication (e.g., ibuprofen)
- Alcohol
- Fish-oil or other blood-thinning supplements
You will need:
- Clean towel
- Fully charged SkinPop Microneedling Device
- New, sterile microneedling cartridge (do not reuse)
- 70% alcohol solution or 0.1% chlorhexidine + cotton pads
- Hyaluronic acid serum (fragrance-free, no actives)
- Optional: surgical gloves, numbing cream (≥ 4% lidocaine)
Step-by-Step:
- Tie hair back. Double-cleanse your face to remove all makeup, oil, and dirt.
- (Optional) Apply numbing cream: spread ~½ tube over the area, wait 20–30 min, then remove completely.
- Ensure the device is charged and close to a power source.
- Sanitise the pen, work surface, and your hands.
- Pour a small amount of serum into a sanitised bowl for easy access.
2. Microneedling Procedure
- Apply a thin layer of hyaluronic acid serum to the section you’ll treat first.
- With clean or gloved hands, open a new cartridge and attach it carefully — avoid touching the needles.
- Set the needle depth using the dial (see Needle Depth Guide).
- Work in small grid-like sections:
- Apply serum → needle the area → move to the next section.
- Glide the pen vertically + horizontally or diagonally (×-pattern).
- Keep skin slightly taut with your free hand.
- Use light pressure — do not drag the pen.
- For body: use 36–42-pin cartridges only.
- Legs: ~0.5 mm
- Fattier areas: up to 1.5 mm
- Avoid bony spots (e.g., shins, knuckles).
3. Post-Needling (First 24 h)
- Rinse gently with tepid water if needed — no cleansers yet.
- Immediately re-apply hyaluronic acid serum for hydration.
- Normal reactions: redness, slight pinpoint bleeding, mild swelling.
- Avoid for 24 h:
- Makeup (unless mineral, formulated for post-procedure skin)
- Exercise / sweating / sauna / swimming
- If outdoors, apply high-protection mineral SPF 50 +.
4. After-Care Timeline
24 h after:
- Cleanse with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser.
- Apply a bland moisturiser — no actives (Vit C, Vit A / retinol, acids, scrubs, or toners).
- Continue to avoid heavy exercise, heat, makeup, and unprotected sun exposure.
- Keep skin hydrated to reduce flaking and tightness.
48 h after:
- If skin is still sensitive → do not exfoliate yet.
- If dryness / flaking is obvious → very gently buff with a damp, clean washcloth (no acids or scrubs).
- Continue moisturiser + HA serum.
Days 3–5: Hydrate + sun protect; avoid direct sun and harsh products.
Day 7 +: Return to your regular skincare routine.
5. Needle Depth Guide (Face)

Note: Thicker or mature skin, scars, or stretch marks may need slightly more depth. Beginners should start at the lower end of each range.
6. Needle Speed Guide
When microneedling, adjust your device’s speed to suit the area and your skin concerns. Start lower if you’re new to microneedling or treating sensitive areas. Increase speed gradually as you gain confidence or when treating thicker skin on the body.
